Connection, collaboration, and creative chaos reign at the WKU New Works Festival! Experience a range of innovative, original performances and enjoy the excitement of being part of something absolutely new!

Performance dates are April 14 - 19, 2016. Showtimes are 8:00pm and 3:00pm on Sunday in the Gordon Wilson Hall Lab Theatre.

Seating is limited!
This event is FREE and NO TICKETS WILL BE ISSUED. We will gladly accept donations at the performances. Thank you.

Thursday/Sunday Performances:

When the Cradle Falls
Playwright: Nick Struck
Director: Baylee Morton

Join Karen and Tom on a fateful afternoon, as they realize the transition to parenthood isn't exactly what they had expected.
Fear, loneliness, and family are explored and questioned as this seemingly ordinary household reveals its secrets.

(S)peaking (A solo performance)
Creator: Isaac Barnes
Director: Ethan Mitchell

A little bit about what we say, what we mean, and all the space in between. After all, it's all just words.

Solace for Jim
Playwright: Mason Stevens
Director: Brooke Eden

Solace for Jim tells the story of Jim Wright, a young man grieving the loss of his father. A cousins' trip in the woods leads to discoveries about how we deal with grief, hardships, and life's unfortunate tragedies.

Fable
Playwright: Shay Barlow
Director: Asya Hildenbrand

A staged reading that is a reimagining of Peter Pan involving a character name Fable visiting J.M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, or the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up. Conflict arises when Fable confronts Barrie about how he has inaccurately told Fable's story.

The Accused

The Accused is an ensemble collection of varying performance styles.
In three stories, it attempts to explore the nature and consequences of prejudgment. 


Friday/Monday Performances:

A Place to Live
Playwright: Aaron Schilling
Director: Colin Waters

Four homeless people reflect upon their troubled pasts and current situations, exposing the stereotypes and stigmas that accompany misfortune while exploring the universality of humanity.
 
The Invisible Man
Playwright: Alex Reeves

The  Invisible Man is a staged reading that is the coming of age story of Michael, a trans* man, who learns to own his identity no matter who wants to change it. 

Fanboy
Playwright: Carrie Moscoe
Director: Abby Sauer

An actress is kidnapped and held hostage by an obsessive, lovesick fan who believes her to be a fictional alien princess she played in a previous film. She must confront his offers of love and find a way to escape. 

Colorblind
Playwright: Sydney-Rae Davis
Director: Luke Smith

When Emma, who comes from a very conservative white family, starts dating a guy she meets at college, her family can't wait to meet him. However, her parents don't expect him to be African-American, and when her mom suggests that Emma bring him home to meet the family, they don't react the way Emma was hoping. 

Inevitably Incomplete (A solo performance)

Who would ever imagine that even after you believe you've experienced it all, something else comes around the corner and changes your entire life? Our relationships and the events we experience in our lives continuously shape us into who we are as people. And it's a process we never get the opportunity to complete.

Complimentary Contradictions

Through the use of movement, our work demonstrates several relationships everyone experiences within themselves and with other people, and that you may never truly know what's going on in a person's head in regards to their object, intent, and circumstance. 

Outside
Playwright: Gabriel Pless
Director: Chandler Smith

Summertime is an adventure, an opportunity for love, and a chance to mature for any high school senior. Now, as it comes to a close, so has Danielle and Jack's time together. As they go their separate ways, the two must decide how close they will remain once they are back in the "real world".

Miss Indedpendent
Creators: Shalyn Grow and Kelly McGee

Miss Independent looks to explore the modern beauty pagent industry and the roles of the lives of those involved and society as a whole. This satirical musical follows a local pageant and delves into what it mens to be confident, empowered, and beautiful.  
 
Outbreak
Playwright: Agnes Filiatreau
Director: Emily Lawrence

When Grace brought her young daughter Marley to the hospital to treat a common illness, the last thing she expected was to be at Ground Zero for the start of the zombie apocalypse. Thrown into a life or death situation, Grace and The Doctor must keep a cool head if they have any hope of surviving the apocalypse. This is a staged reading.  

Best Man
Playwright/Performer: Elliott Talkington
Director: Ellie Archer

Everyone hates weddings. Even you. This solo performance takes a hilarious, sincere, and sometimes irreverent look at relationships, loneliness, dependency, love, sex, and when it's time to be more than a Best Man.
